My first love is eventing, but having always enjoyed young horses and their early progression, I've found myself working on a breaking and pre-training yard in Gloucestershire for the last 13 years. The three horses I own and compete have found me through my work.
Strawberry Hill is an 11-year-old thoroughbred who finished is racing career last year. I broke him in as timid three-year-old and expressed an interest to have him back when he retired. He made his eventing debut at sapey this month and followed up with a double clear at Sollihull last weekend. He will be aimed at the ROR grassroots Championships and potentially qualify badminton grassroots this season.
Imperial moonlight is a six-year-old thoroughbred owned by myself and my boss Martin Jones. He came to us to be backed but was considered too big and gangly to go flat racing. He is slowly growing into his frame. He will be aimed at BE 90 and 100, but unfortunately, will need to be sold this year.
First song, 19, started his life on a top dressage yard. Unfortunately he became too hot and came to us as a wild six-year-old to 'chill out', he never left! He has novice evented, team-chased, and more recently jumped BS. He is still the hottest horse I ride, but his enthusiasm and good looks has gained him quite a fan club. He is going to the riding club FOTH Championships at the end of May and will then have a summer holiday.
I feel very honoured to be one of Jess's sponsored riders, she has been incredibly supportive of my competing over the last few years and I hope to be able to give a little bit back.
